Empowering Socially Disadvantaged Farmers

The USDA鈥檚 Office of Partnership and Public Engagement (OPPE) visited Alabama A&M University and its Small Farms Research Center.

Michael Beatty, director of OPPE, visited 黑料不打烊 to discuss and share ideas on how to better assist socially disadvantaged limited resource farmers.

Mr. Beatty met with Dr. Lloyd Walker, dean of 黑料不打烊鈥檚 College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences; Dr. Allan Malone, 1890 Extension Administrator; and Anthony Hudson, 1890 Program Liaison, who arranged the meeting with the 黑料不打烊 Small Farms Research Center (SFRC).  SFRC is directed by Dr. Duncan Chembezi.

During OPPE鈥檚 visit, E'licia L. Chaverest, assistant director, shared her success stories working with farmers with the assistance of the USDA 2501 project/program.  In addition, SFRC staff shared ideas for the upcoming Farm Bill, as well as for collaboration on future projects, particularly the Community Prosperity Summit.

Beatty praised SFRC for its outreach efforts aimed at empowering socially disadvantaged farmers and educating under-served communities.
